The following email has been sent to ALL the Toronto Centre Candidates.
This invitation is being sent by email and via Twitter notification to all the candidates in the Toronto Centre by-election who are listed on the Elections Canada website.
We emphasize that ALL candidates are invited and we encourage all candidates to attend. Information about this meeting will be updated as appropriate and may be found here:
The final location for the meeting will be announced no later than Wednesday November 13. That said, for the purposes of your scheduling the meeting will take place as follows:
Monday November 18, 2013 – 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
As you are well aware, the issue of “Toronto Centre Candidates Debates” has become one of the biggest issues in the campaign.
This is because of:
– the exclusion of the majority of candidates from debates
– the unwillingness of certain candidates to attend debates
Toronto Centre Debates hopes that you will respect the voters of Toronto Centre and the electoral process by ensuring that you attend.
In order to provide relevance, format and direction the primary topic of this debate will be:
“FATCA – The U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act that the United States is attempting to impose on Canada. As you may know, the current government has alerted Canadians to the fact the it is engaged in discussions – in the form of an Intergovernmental Agreement (“IGA”) – with the United States about the possible implementation of FATCA in Canada.”
It is important to recognize that the implementation of FATCA, by allowing the Canadian banks to come under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, will affect ALL Canadian citizens and will erode Canada’s sovereignty. FATCA is therefore an URGENT issue of VITAL importance to Canada and to all Canadians.
Although FATCA is a severe threat to Canada and Canadians, discussion of FATCA has been non-existent in this Toronto Centre by-election.
The key facts on FATCA with appropriate links to further discussion may be found here:
Finally, although FATCA will be the main topic of the evening, there will be room for question, answer and discussion of other topics of importance to Canada in general and residents of Toronto Centre in particular.
We look forward to meeting you on Monday November 18, 2013.
